Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

Greetings to you!

Each week I send out a short leadership blog that's called "Tuesday at 2:00pm". The purpose of this is simply to provide a brief thought on leadership that you can read and think about in just a few minutes. I send it out every week at 2:00pm (PST) and encourage you to make an appointment with yourself to pause and think about the thing I'm writing about.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"It is not forgivable to be highly efficient but ineffective." Tim Ferriss

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

I'm on a real-life journey to understand more about the "RHYTHM OF MY LIFE" and over the next number of weeks I want to drag you on this journey with me. To read past posts, visit my full site HERE.

Thanks for being on this journey with me over the past month as I've talked about RHYTHM and shared with you some of my journey. Thank you also to those who have reached out and shared your stories along the way. That's been encouraging to me. We're going to keep going, because surprisingly enough, I haven't arrived! There are still lessons to learn, so let's keep going....

There are a couple of final reminders I want to share with you that I'm talking to myself about.

I was listening to a question/answer podcast with Tim Ferris this past week, and in the midst of the conversation, he shared the thought that many of us focus on efficiencies instead of focusing on effectiveness. While I pulled this quote from the podcast, there are many people who talk about "effectiveness vs. efficiency" so today I'm just going to camp out here a little bit.

In Gary Kellers book, "The One Thing", he writes about the benefits of prioritizing a single task with a singular focus.

I'm a fan of the concept, although life is often much more complex, but the goal to focus on something that is a true priority and in accomplishing that one thing, it affects everything, is something that I've worked towards and aimed at.

Again, my problem is that I have "5 One Things" at a time, so even as I narrow them down, it's still a challenge to identify the most important.

The key reminder to me today is to focus on EFFECTIVENESS and not get lost in the system, the plan, the flow and the routines.

What is the One Thing that helps me to accomplish things that make a difference?

In my quest for re-discovering my RHYTHM, I come back to my desire to be effective and impactful on all levels vs. my work to have things all managed by discipline, habits and systems.

What's the ONE THING I can do today that will drive greater effectiveness towards the mission & vision of my life?

DEEPER STILL:

DAY 55 OF MY JOURNEY as I navigate some thoughts around rhythm...

Effectiveness vs. Efficiencies

Years ago, we created a global leadership community called Leader Mundial (Global Leader). This was born out of a season of leadership challenges and some experience journeying with leaders in different parts of the world, and a simple vision was born:

We want to Position Leaders and Organizations for Greater Kingdom Impact.

This is what drove us.

The first year we formally brought people together under this banner was in 2007, and I was encouraged to write a curriculum, write a book, and build a Community that would systematically navigate through the defined curriculum, leading to leaders who were trained and equipped.

Instead, we formed a Community of Leaders and Coaches who we brought together from around the world, and while our vision and goals didn't change, we were less focused on the systematic process, and more focused on the journey.

Instead of having Leaders emerge from our program highly trained and equipped, we had Leaders and Coaches emerge from our Community TRANSFORMED. The power of relationships, the importance of focusing on holistic life rather than just leadership roles, and the power of the Community transformed us into an army of Leaders and Coaches who had been "positioned for Greater Kingdom Impact".

We didn't build a system or a curriculum, but we built a model that for the past 19 years has impacted men and women in leadership from over 48 different countries through a number of unique Communities where transformation can happen.

And we're just getting started!

Had we begun our journey focusing on being EFFECIENT, we might have designed a better learning system and a stronger position of training, but instead we focused on our end goal, and that was IMPACT.

Hundreds of Leaders Lives Transformed, Organizations Positioned and Countless Others in the Wake Impacted.

My life has been impacted in ways I can't even explain.

What defines "Effective" for you? Are you pursuing that with everything you've got?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • The One Thing Book by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan.

  • Found the Merlin Bird App this week, thanks to Jonny. I'm not a bird watcher, but I can now identify 4 different birds in my backyard! Check it out HERE. Of course, this Bird Feeder helps attract the Birds!

  • I've followed Tim Ferriss for years and like the way he explores productivity from a variety of different aspects. I've read his books and listened to many of his podcasts.

  • This week I listened to The Police Essentials on Apple. Great music spanning many years!

  • Learning more about the Rule of Life from John Mark Comer in his book, Practicing the Way.
